The Tiffen 138mm Linear Polarising Filter - Reflected light rays become polarised. Polarising filters are used to select which light rays enter your lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colours by providing better contrast.
The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies depending on the rotation of the filter and its orientation to the sun.
If you are walking around on a beautiful day - in the mountains or at the beach - and you want to take a stunning photo of a sky filled with clouds or make the water more saturated, then a polariser is the solution. This filter is the best way to make clouds stand out, increase or decrease the saturation of the ocean or increase or decrease reflection on the water. You can also use this filter to photograph through glass or windows as it will allow you, once again, to increase or decrease reflections.
If you are photographing in black and white and you want to simulate a threatening storm, try using a red #25 filter. The landscape will take on the appearance of an imminent and threatening storm.
Along with a UV or Skylight filter, a polarising filter should be part of every photographer's equipment. It can transform an ordinary image into a creative and stunning photo by increasing colour saturation.
Note: Linear polarisers are used with most video cameras and manual focus cameras. They are not recommended for autofocus SLR cameras
- This filter eliminates ultraviolet rays to remove haze from outdoor shots and polarises light to eliminate reflections and increase colour saturation without affecting overall colour balance
- Can significantly enhance a blue sky and make clouds more prominent
- Used optimally at right angles to the sun
- Excellent for bringing out cloud formations
