Foundry locked camera tracking node
The CAMERATRACKER plugin for After Effects allows you to extract 3D motion tracking and matchmoves without leaving After Effects. It analyses the source footage and extracts the lens parameters and original camera movement, enabling you to correctly composite 2D or 3D elements in reference to the camera used to film the shot.
Camera tracking directly in After Effects
CAMERATRACKER is a plugin for After Effects. Unlike all other tracking solutions, you don't need to leave your compositing software to perform the tracking. This eliminates the usual problem of finding formats that work correctly for round-tripping, and reduces those vast feature lists of conventional standalone trackers, listing format support and so on, to only those that matter for tracking. The tracking remains active, so you can always come back later and refine the results if necessary, and at any time you can use the tracked data to create cameras, null objects and solids locked to positions in the context of your scene.
The integration with After Effects gives you the advantage of being able to pre-process your image sequence using any of the powerful tools available, without having to learn a new interface or pay for duplicate features. You also benefit from direct integration with compositing camera effects such as Shatter and Trapcode Particular from Red Giant Software, as well as the multitude of After Effects scripts available from the community, including those enabling exchanges with Cinema4D, Maya, 3D Studio Max and more.

Main tracking workflow
CAMERATRACKER analyses the source footage and enables the creation of an After Effects camera, which matches the one with which the original footage was filmed. The basic process takes place in 3 stages, namely:
Tracking - automatically generates a number of tracking points, based on a series of user-configurable parameters, and tracks them throughout the sequence. Tracks are dropped and new ones are regenerated if they fall below a certain quality threshold, then are verified in a bidirectional tracking pass.
Solving - builds a model of the 3D feature positions of the tracking points, and of the camera with which they were filmed, based on the parallax observed in a number of keyframes, chosen according to a series of user-configurable parameters.
Scene creation - creates an After Effects camera and a null object that embody the analysed shot. The null object can be used to control the global scene parameters, such as scale, offset and rotation.

Operating modes
CAMERATRACKER can be run either fully automatically, or using its incredibly detailed configurable options to allow you to adjust everything from tracking and validation to solving and object creation.
Viewport menu
CAMERATRACKER has a unique menu in the viewport, allowing quick and easy use of the plugin without having to move the cursor, and therefore your point of attention, away from the image itself.
Object creation
The viewport menu and associated keyboard shortcuts allow you to create After Effects solids and null objects in your composition, positioned to match your currently selected feature tracking points. Easily attach objects and text in the context of your scene.
Ground plane
CAMERATRACKER allows you to set up a ground plane, thereby defining the orientation and offset of the entire scene by various means, including:
Best fit defined on selection, for quick scene setup. It takes the currently selected points and fits a plane through them. With 3 points, the plane uses these points as the defining structure, with 4 points or more, it finds an alignment with the least error. The centre of the best-fit plane is used for the offset, and the angle for the scene orientation.
Explicit definition of origin, definition of x, y, z, allowing precise control over scene offset and orientation. Selecting multiple points for the axis options fits a best-fit line through them. Ideal if you have multiple tracking points locked against an axis line in your scene.
Scene null object for manual adjustment. All cameras, solids and null objects created by CAMERATRACKER are by default parented to the scene null object. This allows you to easily set up the scale, rotation and offset of the entire scene using After Effects' standard null object controls.

Point cloud preview
Once a shot has been solved and a scene has been created, the user can switch CAMERATRACKER to render mode for a preview of the 3D features, which details the positions of individual feature points and their current selection and frame status. This unique feature can be used to visualise and help define ground planes and create objects.
Statistics readings and refinement workflow
CAMERATRACKER has a complete workflow for solving statistics and refinement. Standard After Effects parameters are set showing a number of useful statistics, both after the tracking phase and after the solving phase. These parameters include measurements for:
- Number of tracks
- Track lifespan, in minimum and average values
- Track distance, in average and maximum values
- Solve keyframe status
- Overall solve error
- Solve error margin (an excellent quality measure for your tracking)
- Solve errors per frame, in average and maximum values
- Solve errors per track in maximum value

CAMERATRACKER statistics
A variety of tools are provided for working with these statistics, to enable isolation and removal of particular features, including:
Data overlays: Selection and hover tooltips are provided on feature points, allowing you to easily see the underlying point data. These include measurements of track length, distance and error statistics.
Track search: Easily select the worst offenders on the current frame using the track search functionality available both in the viewport menu and via keyboard shortcuts.
Threshold statistics: Quickly select and remove the worst offenders across the entire time range of your footage, using After Effects' built-in graph editor.

Lens distortion
CAMERATRACKER can estimate the lens distortion of the tracked clip for you, then offers the option to flatten and redistort the footage. It will also refine an estimate that you enter and supports spherical and asymmetric distortions.
Focal length and film format estimation
CAMERATRACKER can work from shots with a known focal length and film format, or estimate this data for you using its high-tech and production-tested solving phase algorithms. Fixed and variable focal lengths can be calculated, and a flexible refinement function allows you to explicitly set a rough estimate if you wish to restrict yourself to a particular range.
Nodal pans
In addition to supporting standard moving camera shots, CAMERATRACKER's flexible tracking validation and solving stages can also be locked to solve nodal pans (i.e. when the camera body and lens are pivoted around the nodal point of the combination).
