Yamaha Network Switch
The complex configuration of network switches, previously reserved for IT technicians, can now be easily carried out by anyone. A simple switch setting is sufficient to optimise the SWP1 series network switches for Dante operation, and a dedicated computer application called Yamaha LAN Monitor offers "network visibility" for comprehensive monitoring and control. Yamaha entered the network equipment sector in 1995 and acquired a significant share of the network market for small and medium-sized businesses and SOHO in Japan. Yamaha's L2 gigabit switches, which can be linked to Yamaha routers/firewalls, were introduced in 2011, with features that significantly reduced the workload associated with network configuration, maintenance and management. 20 years later, audio networking has become one of the fastest-growing and most valued technologies in the field of live sound reinforcement and professional audio. A growing range of Dante-compatible Yamaha products, including the highly regarded CL series digital mixing consoles, continues to lead the way. The SWP1 series network switches are a solution the professional audio market has been waiting for, offering an ideal balance between IT expertise and professional audio know-how that only Yamaha can provide. The SWP1 series makes audio network configuration, monitoring and operation easier and more convenient than ever. Dante Optimisation via DIP Switch Simple Dante networks are not difficult to configure and operate, but as network complexity increases, the switches used must be optimised for Dante operation in order to achieve maximum stability. Configuring QoS, IGMP Snooping and other parameters on a smart switch can be a complex task, requiring specialist knowledge that falls more within the domain of IT technicians than sound engineers. The SWP1 series allows an optimised Dante configuration to be recalled by simply flipping a DIP switch. No expertise or training is required. 3 Types of Preset VLAN A truly effective network must be able to handle multiple services simultaneously: Dante communication, StageMix functions and other smart devices, computer software enabling digital console or power amplifier control, and perhaps more. But the more communications you combine on a network, the higher the risk of interference and problems. Using virtual VLAN domains to isolate different types of data is the ideal solution, but this type of configuration also requires a certain level of IT expertise. The SWP1 series includes three VLAN presets that can simply be selected via a DIP switch. There is also a USER mode that allows fully customised VLAN configuration. Network Visibility Effective Dante network management relies on a range of parameters such as network traffic, switch status and information on individual Dante devices. The dedicated Yamaha LAN Monitor application provides a comprehensive overview on a single screen of all necessary parameters when used with SWP1 series switches. We call this type of graphical overview "network visibility". You can even take a snapshot of the normal network state and set an alarm to alert you if a parameter changes, so that issues can be quickly and easily identified and resolved. The Dante Controller application can also be launched from Yamaha LAN Monitor with a single click, providing a complete Dante network solution on a single computer. etherCON Connectors for Live Sound Reinforcement Reliability Reliability is essential in live sound reinforcement applications. Nothing must interrupt the show. Conventional network switches generally have RJ45 connectors to match the connectors of the computers to which they will be connected, but the SWP1 series features durable and reliable etherCON connectors that are directly compatible with the etherCON connectors on Yamaha CL/QL consoles and other Dante-compatible devices. EXT DC INPUT for Power Redundancy SWP1 series switches include an XLR-4-32 type EXT DC INPUT connector in addition to the standard AC IN connector. The +24 V DC supplied to the EXT DC INPUT connector provides redundant power that can keep the unit operating in the event of a problem with the mains power supply. For increased reliability, the mains connector is of the lockable type (V-Lock), which minimises the risk of accidental disconnection. Yamaha's SWP1 series network switches were specially created to offer users maximum benefits with the greatest ease of configuration and operation possible. They enable one-click Dante optimisation and advanced network visibility while making full use of Dante audio stream management capabilities. Yamaha LAN Monitor software works with the SWP1 series to enable comprehensive monitoring and management not only of connected SWP1 series switches, but also of connected Dante devices. Yamaha's original L2MS (Layer 2 Management Service) protocol extends "network visibility" capability to all Dante devices connected to SWP1 series switches. LAN Map for a Complete Network Overview Understanding how multiple switches installed in different locations are connected, as well as how network devices are connected to those switches, can be a difficult and time-consuming task. Yamaha LAN Monitor makes the overall network topology clearly visible, giving the user a complete overview of the interconnection between multiple switches and Dante network devices. Simply connect a computer to the nearest SWP1 switch and launch the Yamaha LAN Monitor software. Port Status and Bandwidth Utilisation Yamaha LAN Monitor includes a port status and bandwidth display that clearly shows the connection status of each network switch port, information on connected devices, the communication speed at each port and the bandwidth utilisation at each port. Snapshot Function Simplifies Troubleshooting A "snapshot" can be taken of the network state at the time of configuration. The software can then automatically track parameters and alert the user to any changes. A snapshot could be taken of the network during rehearsal, and the user would then be alerted if a cable is disconnected, a device is switched off or an incorrect connection is made before the performance, for example. Enhanced Device Identification with Icons, Labels and Comments Identifying devices connected to a switch solely by IP or MAC address is a difficult and error-prone approach. Connected Dante devices are identified by a Dante icon as well as by a device ID previously configured via the Dante Controller software. You can also enter additional information, such as the device location, in the Label and Comment fields. Detailed Switch Settings and Firmware Updates The Web GUI interface of each device can be recalled to access "deep" settings and enable firmware updates.
