The Neumann KM 185 MT matte black microphone is a pressure gradient condenser microphone with hypercardioid directivity, designed for live sound reinforcement, broadcasting and recording applications.

The KM 180 series microphones feature an output stage based on the KM 100. The transformerless circuit and balanced output provide high output gain with very low noise level and no colouration of the output signal.

The KM 185 MT is powered by +48V phantom power. Its frequency response from 20 Hz to 20 kHz offers flexibility for use in a wide range of recording situations. The KM 185 provides attenuation of off-axis sections of the microphone, and is suitable for X,Y and ORTF stereo recording, as an announcer microphone for broadcasting, spot capture of drum overheads, strings, wind instruments, percussion, piano and amplifier cabinets. The KM 185 handles sound pressure levels up to 142 dB allowing close miking of instruments with high transient (peak) level response.

Hypercardioid Directivity

The hypercardioid directivity offers greater attenuation of off-axis sections of the microphone, resulting in a tighter pattern with even less noise caused by ambience.

Output Stage Based on the KM 100

The KM 185 features the same output electronics as the KM 100. The transformerless circuit and quiet balanced output design ensure a clean, high-gain output signal without any colouration. The KM 185 is powered by +48V phantom power, and its frequency response from 20 Hz to 20 kHz offers flexibility for use in a wide range of recording situations. The KM 185 can handle sound pressure levels up to 142 dB, allowing relatively close miking of instruments.
