The Neumann KM 185 MT matte black microphone is a hypercardioid pressure gradient condenser microphone designed for live sound reinforcement, broadcast and recording applications. The KM 180 series microphones feature an output stage based on the KM 100. A transformerless circuit and balanced output allow for high output gain with very low self-noise and no colouration of the output signal. The KM 185 MT is powered by +48V phantom power. Its frequency response from 20 Hz to 20 kHz offers versatility across a wide range of recording situations. The KM 185 provides attenuation in the off-axis sections of the microphone and is suitable for X,Y and ORTF stereo recordings, as an announcer microphone for broadcast, for close-miking drum overheads, strings, wind instruments, percussion, piano and amplifier cabinets. The KM 185 handles sound pressure levels of up to 142 dB, enabling close-miking of instruments with high transient response levels (peaks). Hypercardioid polar pattern The hypercardioid polar pattern provides increased attenuation in the off-axis sections of the microphone, resulting in a tighter directivity with even less noise caused by ambient sound. Output stage based on the KM 100 The KM 185 uses the output stage electronics of the KM 100. The transformerless circuit and quiet balanced output design ensure a high-gain output signal that is clean and free from colouration. The KM 185 is powered by +48V phantom power, and its frequency response from 20 Hz to 20 kHz offers versatility across a wide range of recording situations. The KM 185 can handle sound pressure levels of up to 142 dB, enabling fairly close miking of instruments. Compact and robust construction The slim design and robust construction allow for easy microphone placement whilst remaining suited to heavy use on the road.
