The modular KM A / KM D miniature microphone system is an evolution of the highly successful KM 100 series. The newly developed passive capsule design is available with 8 different directional characteristics and can be combined modularly as required with an analogue output stage (KM A) or a digital output stage (KM D) compliant with the AES 42 standard. The considerably smaller new microphone capsules and a comprehensive accessories programme allow excellent adaptation of the microphone system to a wide range of applications. Thanks to the use of the most modern electronic components, the system offers numerous electroacoustic and operational advantages, such as lower self-noise, a wider dynamic range and very high immunity to electromagnetic interference. The capsule acoustics have been carried over from the proven KM 100 system. Additional information on digital microphone technology and the complete Solution-D system can be downloaded in PDF format. The KM A analogue output stage with P48 phantom power features a switch for 10 dB pre-attenuation. The microphones can thus handle levels of up to 152 dB (depending on capsule type). The KM D digital output stage converts the capsule signal directly into a digital signal. The result is a 24-bit AES/EBU signal with a wide dynamic range. The integrated digital signal processor (DSP) allows remote control of the microphones, including digital gain, pre-attenuation (6 dB, 12 dB or 18 dB) and high-pass filter (0 Hz, 40 Hz, 80 Hz or 160 Hz). An integrated peak limiter and a compressor/limiter with an additional de-esser function prevent any overloading of the audio signal. The dimensions (22 mm diameter, 93 mm length) of the analogue and digital output stages are identical. Therefore, all accessories can be used in combination with both output stages. On request, a mechanical adapter can be supplied to adapt the microphone capsules from the KM 100 system (AK series) to the KM A and KM D output stages. The modular solution allows the microphone capsule to be separated from the output stage over a distance of up to 100 m. The LC 4 microphone cable in lengths of 5 or 10 metres is available as a standard solution. Alternatively, capsule extensions of various lengths, swivel joints and stand mounts, etc., can be used for a flexible system configuration. The KK 183, KK 184 or KK 185 capsule heads, with the appropriate output stage, are also available as kits, in which case they are designated as KM 183 A, KM 183 D, etc.
