The Neumann KMS 104 microphone was developed to transmit the human voice optimally whilst taking into account the demanding conditions present on stage. The KMS series has become the international reference for high-end stage microphones.

The high acoustic resolution and uniform frequency response of the microphones ensure that the musician has optimal control of their stage performance at all times.

Due in particular to their low self-noise and their uncoloured off-axis behaviour, KMS microphones are ideal for use with in-ear monitoring systems.

The KMS 104 and KMS 104 plus are equipped with a condenser microphone capsule with a cardioid directional characteristic that provides the best possible rejection of sounds coming from behind the microphone. The KMS 104 plus features, compared to the KMS 104, an extended frequency response in the low frequencies. In close collaboration with professional musicians, using numerous practical tests, the KMS 104 plus has been specially optimised for the needs of female voices in rock and pop.

The user can thus choose the version best suited to their specific application.

ACOUSTIC CHARACTERISTICS

The studio condenser capsules used in the microphone versions form the basis for transmitting all the nuances of the human voice. Compared to other portable microphones, which operate primarily with dynamic capsules, the KMS series offers particularly high acoustic transparency, a wide frequency range and fine transient resolution.

In KMS microphones, carefully adjusted acoustic filters and transformerless impedance converters capable of handling very high sound pressure levels prevent the microphones from being saturated even by powerful plosives.

Despite excellent protection against plosives, sibilants and "S" sounds are transmitted with their natural emphasis, as only condenser microphones allow. Furthermore, the acoustic filters mentioned above are designed so that the distinctive directional characteristics of the capsules are preserved even at low frequencies. The filters thus ensure a very high level of feedback protection for the KMS 104/104 plus and KMS 105 vocal microphones when used with a stage PA system.

ELECTRICAL CHARACTERISTICS

Since vocal microphones are generally used at close range, for the low-frequency response, electronic compensation is used for the proximity effect in the respective capsules.

Furthermore, the microphone features a fixed integrated high-pass filter with a cut-off frequency of 120 Hz (-3 dB, measured in free field). The maximum sound pressure level of KMS microphones is 150 dB.

The low self-noise level of only 18 dB A allows the microphones to be used at high gain levels without risk of additional noise. Even at long distances, the microphones operate with a high signal/noise ratio, facilitating the freedom of movement and creativity important for the artist.

Thanks to the transformerless output circuit, the microphone signals can be transmitted even over long cables without any loss of sound.

MECHANICAL CHARACTERISTICS

Microphones designed for stage use require a particularly robust construction. The KMS 104/104 plus and KMS 105 therefore feature thick-walled metal housings, which also offer effective protection against handling noise.

The microphone grilles are made of hardened steel. If necessary, they can easily be unscrewed to allow cleaning of the internal acoustic filters.

DELIVERY CONTENTS
