overview
The Sennheiser MD 421-II microphone is a cardioid dynamic microphone popularised by the recording and broadcasting industry. The MD 421-II is appreciated for its ability to handle various applications thanks to its flexible bass control. The microphone features a 5-position bass attenuation switch and a frequency response of 30-17,000 Hz. The cardioid directivity effectively rejects off-axis noise due to room acoustics and noise, and also provides effective rejection of feedback often caused by monitors positioned nearby.
The MD 421 II is equipped with a dynamic capsule, allowing uniform signal response whether close up or at a reasonable distance. This is particularly useful for broadcasting applications, where presenters and DJs can avoid having to remain absolutely stationary. The MD 421-II also handles very high sound pressure levels, making it suitable for recording instruments rich in transients (peaks).
Dynamic capsule
The MD 421 II is equipped with a dynamic capsule, offering uniform signal response at short and medium distances as well as the ability to handle high SPL levels.
Cardioid directivity
Cardioid directivity is effective for attenuating off-axis noise and ambience. Cardioid directivity is also effective for rejecting feedback from monitors.
5-position bass attenuation
The 5-position low-frequency attenuation switch offers flexible bass attenuation allowing the microphone to be used in various situations.
