Yamaha subwoofer for VXS1, 3 inch, white, unit
Naturally extended bass that brings music to life
The VXS series "S" model subwoofers are ideal companions for VXS and VXC series speakers, harmoniously extending the low-frequency range with superb sound quality for more complete and faithful music reproduction. While being no larger than a compact wall-mount speaker, the VXS3S delivers solid, natural bass reinforcement, whilst the VXS10S and VXS10ST deliver even more low-frequency power for situations demanding maximum bass authority.
A choice of models for every bass need
Luxurious bass response can considerably enhance musical presence and realism. Yamaha offers the VXS3S for harmoniously extended bass power, and the VXS10S and VXS10ST for applications requiring maximum bass impact. Choose the model that best matches the system size and the full-range speakers being used.
Low-frequency enhancement methods
Several methods are used to enhance the low-frequency response of speakers. In bass-reflex designs, a tuned port in the enclosure amplifies the low frequencies emanating from the rear of the speaker cone. The VXS10S adopts this method, specialising in more powerful low-frequency reproduction. The problem with this approach is that as the enclosure becomes smaller or thinner, the port size must be reduced accordingly, resulting in increased resistance and a corresponding reduction in bass amplification. Bass-reflex designs are not always suited to compact enclosures.
Passive radiator designs avoid using a port, instead amplifying the bass response with a tuned "passive cone". The passive radiator method is better suited to compact enclosures, but the passive cone tends to be heavy, requiring a firm and durable suspension that can reduce efficiency. The directivity of the passive radiator also imposes restrictions on placement and how the system can be installed.
Yamaha's original SR-Bass technology employed in the VXS3S suspends a four-sided diaphragm on a single side, using the resonance of the diaphragm to enhance the low-frequency output of the system. There are no limitations on the shape and materials used for the diaphragm, making SR-Bass technology applicable to a wide range of enclosure designs, including compact models.

Satellite connectors optimise balance
The VXS3S and VXS10S feature satellite connectors on the rear panel, minimising the number of amplification channels required to configure a system. And since the VXS3S and VXS10S support high-impedance connections, it is possible to connect low-impedance satellites whilst the subwoofer is connected to a high-impedance system, for example. An integrated high-pass filter is automatically applied to the satellite speakers, providing an exceptionally smooth and natural frequency handover from the subwoofer to the satellites.
Flexible installation options
In addition to the supplied wall-mount hardware, a variety of optional hardware allows VXS series "S" models to be mounted in several ways. The VXS10S can be floor- or wall/ceiling-mounted, whilst the VXS3S also allows flush ceiling mounting.
