The power of Ki Pro in a 1RU format, the perfect solution for broadcasters moving away from magnetic tape.
Features
- Transition to file-based workflows - For video installations moving from tape to file-based workflows for recording and playback, Ki Pro Rack offers high-quality “edit-ready” file capture designed to transfer material from source to post-production as quickly as possible. With a multitude of professional connections, Ki Pro Rack will integrate seamlessly into your existing cabling and routing system and record Apple ProRes and Avid DNxHD files in 10-bit directly to removable hard disk or SSD storage modules, eliminating the need for time-consuming logging and capture. Files can be used in most editing systems without requiring transcoding or additional import processes.
- 10-bit full resolution recording - Quality performance - but not in file size. By recording 10-bit full resolution files, Ki Pro Rack provides you with high-quality images that easily withstand the demands of post-processing - and client scrutiny. Compared to 8-bit recording devices, 10-bit 4:2:2 recording offers a wider dynamic range, giving a superior representation of the original scene and allowing more flexibility in post-production when adjusting colours and balance. Using the efficient ProRes and DNxHD codecs, file sizes remain manageable, so you won't need to exceed your production budget for additional storage.
- RS-422 control - Ki Pro Rack features RS-422 control, allowing it to be easily integrated with editing systems, external controllers and even other VTRs, and to perform all the functions of a traditional VTR. Systems can perform assemble edits directly to Ki Pro Rack storage modules, often faster than rendering to ProRes or DNxHD files in an editing system. Ki Pro Rack's RS-422 connection can also be used to capture tape media directly into Ki Pro Rack as edit-ready ProRes clips or for archiving.
- Familiar controls and operation - Anyone familiar with operating a VTR will immediately feel comfortable with Ki Pro Rack. Like a traditional VTR, Ki Pro Rack features simple dedicated buttons for Record, Play, Rewind and Fast Forward, facilitating the transition with minimal training time. Ki Pro Rack's current status and all configuration information are clearly displayed on the integrated screen. The integrated operating system uses a quick, flat menu structure that allows full configuration directly on the device without needing to connect to a laptop to access operational settings.
- Professional connections - The video and audio connections on the rear of Ki Pro Rack are of the same type as those found on traditional VTRs, allowing Ki Pro Rack to integrate seamlessly into your current cabling and routing. Rear connections include SDI, HDMI, analogue component, balanced audio connectors, LTC input/output, RS-422 control and LAN.
- Dual drive bays - The two media bays on Ki Pro Rack allow extremely fast media changes - you can change drive and start recording immediately, without having to wait to eject the first. All Ki Pro models capture 10-bit footage directly to reliable storage media. Ki Pro and Ki Pro Rack use AJA storage modules, available in hard disk or SSD versions that connect directly to your editing system via an integrated FireWire 800 connection. Guaranteed for 1 year, AJA storage modules are designed with reinforced connections and carefully tested, ready for intensive use. Recording times are also longer than standard tapes, minimising the number of media changes required.
- File transfer via Ethernet - Thanks to its network connectivity, media can be copied to and from Ki Pro Rack via the Ethernet connection. This allows fast file transfers without needing to physically remove media from Ki Pro Rack, which can be particularly useful in large installations and significantly reduces the number of people needing to enter the machine room, thus minimising the risk of inadvertent interference with equipment. Like all other Ki Pro units, multiple Ki Pro Racks can be networked for control via a single interface.
- Integrated AJA hardware conversion - Ki Pro Rack incorporates AJA's cutting-edge conversion technology, allowing you to perform high-quality up/down/cross conversions during recording or playback without having to use a second device.
