This compact, redesigned live TV switcher is a great fit to any streaming production, providing eight 3G-SDI inputs that support up to 1080p60 video, built-in live streaming, USB webcam support, audio mixing, chroma keyers, DVE, transitions, media players, internal recording, and talkback support.
Blackmagic Design ATEM Television Studio HD8 ISO Add an all-in-one live streaming switcher to your television studio, remote production, or event venue with the Blackmagic Design ATEM Television Studio HD8 ISO. This compact, redesigned live TV switcher fits perfectly into any streaming production, offering eight 3G-SDI inputs supporting up to 1080p60 video, built-in live streaming, USB webcam support, audio mixing, chroma keyers, DVE, transitions, media players, internal recording, and talkback support. This ISO model also allows recording each input to separate files and enables control and integration of remote Internet cameras. The switcher is compatible with Blackmagic Cloud, so your program recordings can be available immediately from anywhere in the world.
The switcher features a new button layout, and it's made from polycarbonate, making it much lighter than its predecessor. It offers many layout improvements with professional buttons, LCD label displays, and an easy-to-navigate button layout. It includes all the features needed for studio operation, including talkback compatibility, GPI and tally interfaces, and timecode as well as a MADI input that supports up to 32 channels and 64 output channels for use with external mixers; input audio can be mapped to any of the eight SDI outputs as well as the analogue audio input and output.
The HD8 ISO features built-in live streaming and can connect to Blackmagic Cloud to share your program for seamless remote workflow. It also has Ethernet and power redundancy to keep your production running in case of a lost connection. Two USB-C connectors are available for use either as a webcam when connected to a computer, or you can use an external drive to record your program. Live production You get an incredibly powerful 8-input switcher with both program and two auxiliary outputs, so you have everything you need for mobile production. This means you can connect up to 8 cameras. Plus, you get professional camera control, talkback, and audio mixing, all designed into a familiar broadcast panel. Post-production The ISO model records all inputs to separate files, allowing you to edit with any multicam-compatible editing software. This is possible because all files have perfect timecode synchronisation. Plus, with built-in network storage, you can edit while recording. Multiple users can even share media and collaborate. Distribution With a built-in hardware streaming engine, you can broadcast your live event to a worldwide audience. Recording to H.264 files with AAC audio means you get the correct format for uploading to YouTube. Plus, you share live broadcasts with your audience using auxiliary outputs and large screens and projectors. Production switcher control You get an advanced broadcast-quality switcher, with built-in ATEM Advanced Chroma keyers, Fairlight audio mixer, DVE, still store for graphics and more. Most features can be used from the front panel, or you can use the free ATEM Software Control on macOS or Windows to access even more features. Easy setup and operation Simply press any button in the program row on the front panel to switch between video sources. Or you can preset a source on the preview row and choose between cut or effect transitions by selecting the cut or auto buttons. You can select from exciting transitions like dissolve, or more dramatic effects like dip, DVE squeeze and DVE push. You can even add a DVE for picture-in-picture effects with custom graphics. There are also media players, which allow you to store graphics with alpha channels for titles and graphics that you can load as live video inputs. You can then stream the results. Redesigned front panel The front panel includes buttons to select sources, trigger transitions and configure video effects. Plus, the buttons are the same high-end type used on expensive broadcast mixers. You also have a built-in T-bar for manual transition control. The front panel even features an innovative audio mixing control area with live metering on a dedicated LCD. There are also buttons for recording and streaming control, plus aux switching that allows you to change aux outputs between the 8 cameras, program, preview or multiview. Connect 5G or 4G phones for mobile data If you're doing live on-site production, the ATEM Television Studio HD supports mobile data by connecting an Apple or Android phone to the USB port. It's also an excellent backup solution for the main Ethernet connection. Tethering works with the latest high-speed 5G phones as well as more common 4G phones.
The ATEM switcher will detect when a phone is connected and automatically switch its Internet connection to use it if the Ethernet connection is lost. Once connected, the phone will also be powered by the USB port, so it always stays charged and ready for use. By using tethering and mobile data, you get the perfect mobile production solution that can be transported anywhere. Live production editing with separate ISO recordings The ATEM Television Studio HD ISO model allows you to edit your live event as it can record all inputs into separate video files. You get 8 separate input video files with matching timecode and sync, and the program video is also recorded into a separate master video file. This means you can edit using any NLE software that supports multicam editing.
A DaVinci Resolve project file is saved and linked to the input video files, so your live switching is converted into an edit timeline that you just need to click to open. It's now easy to re-edit your show with new colour grades and even updated graphics. Plus, all the audio is recorded into separate WAV files, so you can professionally remix your audio. Remote Internet Camera Connection Another exciting feature of the ATEM Television Studio HD ISO model is that it can connect to remote cameras. Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2, Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Pro G2 and Blackmagic Studio Camera 6K Pro cameras can stream live in H.264 directly to the switcher. If you're connected to the local network, simply select the camera in the input menu.
However, if the switcher is set up with a fixed external IP address, you can export an XML file with the camera settings to stream live from anywhere on the internet. Just load the XML file into the camera. Plus, you even get camera control and tally. Program audio is also sent back to the camera, which is ideal for live interviews. Broadcast style Mix/Effects switching The ATEM Television Studio uses a professional program/preview style of operation, which is exactly how major broadcasters use live production switchers. The ATEM Television Studio can be switched to A/B style switching, which is easier when used by volunteers or community groups. However, if you want to operate the switcher like a broadcast professional, then program/preview is perfect. This means a source won't go on air until you press the cut or auto button. This two-step process means you see what you select before putting it on air, so you make fewer mistakes. Add spectacular video effects One of the advantages of the ATEM Television Studio is the range of built-in professional video effects. The cut button ensures an instant cut when changing sources. The T-bar can be used to perform video effect transitions, or you can transition automatically by pressing the auto button. Auto uses the transition duration set in the system control. You can also select the desired effect type, including mix, which performs a smooth transition between sources, or dip which transitions via a third video source, such as a colour generator. There is a wide range of included SMPTE wipes, as well as DVE effects that slide or squeeze the image off the screen when transitioning between video sources. Creative transitions ATEM Television Studio includes the same type of transitions found on expensive broadcast switchers. This means effects and transitions can be customised in many different ways, making them surprisingly powerful. You'll never stop finding new ways to use them. That's because all transitions can be customised by adjusting parameters such as duration, border colour, border width, position and direction. You can even use the DVE with a wipe transition, where the DVE moves a graphic over the wipe edge. This is called a graphic wipe and is often used in sports broadcasting. The preview transition button can be used to set up effects offline, which is ideal for eliminating mistakes. Built-in DVE The ATEM Television Studio HD features an independent DVE that allows you to reposition graphics and create picture-in-picture compositions. You get exceptional quality and the DVE supports positioning, resizing, and scaling, all in real-time. The DVE allows you to create professional picture-in-picture effects with customisable 3D borders, shadows, and lighting. DVEs can also be used to create stunning DVE transitions with squeeze, swoop, and push effects to add excitement to your programming. You can even combine DVE transitions with custom graphics to create your own graphic wipe transitions. Plus, there's also a multilayer SuperSource processing engine with 4 additional DVEs. Supports internal media The built-in media pool stores broadcast-quality graphics and animations that can be played using the integrated media players. The media players appear as independent sources, so you don't need to waste SDI inputs for graphics. For optimal quality, all media supports RGB colour space with alpha channel, allowing transparency and overlays. The media pool can hold 20 still images in HD. Animated graphics, animation clips and stingers can be up to 400 frames in 720HD and 200 frames in 1080HD. ATEM Software Control allows you to upload and manage media. You can even prepare graphics in Adobe Photoshop and then upload them to the media pool using the free ATEM Photoshop plug-in. Includes 4 ATEM Advanced Chroma Keyers ATEM Television Studio is perfect for news and studio presentation work as it features 4 ATEM Advanced Chroma keyers for green screen effects. The chroma keyers are incredibly powerful and include features such as a colour picker to sample background colours for automatic keying parameter generation. You get precise controls for edges and spill, and there's even a foreground colour corrector, allowing you to match foreground and background layers for perfect compositions. You can even use it for title keying by creating graphics with a green or blue background. With 4 ATEM Advanced Chroma keyers, ATEM Television Studio is perfect for creating virtual sets with fixed cameras. SuperSource processing In addition to the DVE in the ATEM Television Studio, there is also a powerful SuperSource multilayer processor. SuperSource gives you 4 additional DVE layers plus a background layer, all composited together as an additional input source. Any video input can be used as a source for each DVE, then everything is composited over media, a custom background or live video. SuperSource is perfect for doing multiple picture-in-picture displays with interview subjects, as you can set up the effect so the viewer can see each interview subject, all within an elegant graphic. SuperSource is like having a completely independent multilayer VFX switcher built in. 8 3G-SDI inputs with standards conversion The ATEM Television Studio HD features 8 independent 3G-SDI inputs, each input having its own dedicated standards converter. This means that any 1080HD or 720HD input source can be converted to the switcher's video standard, so you could have each SDI input on the switcher running at a different television standard and all inputs would simply work.
Audio channels 1, 2, 3 and 4 from the SDI inputs can also be manually routed to various embedded audio channels in the program and aux outputs. Additionally, you can even route audio channels 1 and 2 from SDI inputs to the MADI digital audio output, so you can hand off the switcher's input audio to an external sound engineer for mixing. 3G-SDI outputs with 16-channel embedded audio The ATEM Television Studio includes nine 3G-SDI program outputs, so you have enough connections to send a separate program return feed to all your cameras. This is important as the SDI program return is used to send tally, talkback and control information back to the cameras.
You also get two dedicated auxiliary outputs for feeding stage monitors and main recorders. These auxiliary outputs can be switched live using dedicated buttons on the control panel. Aux 1 even includes an on-screen counter for presenter monitoring. Plus, you can manually route audio into the 16 embedded audio channels of the SDI outputs. For camera monitoring, there's a dedicated 3G-SDI and HDMI output for multiview. 16-source multiview on a single monitor For larger live productions with multiple cameras, it's vital to see all your video sources at the same time on a single monitor. ATEM Television Studio HD includes a professional multiview that allows you to see all video inputs, preview and program on a single SDI or HDMI monitor. You can even send the multiview to the auxiliary outputs. Each camera view includes tally indicators, so you know when each source is on air; plus, each view has custom labels and audio meters. You can fully customise the multiview layout with up to 16 simultaneous views. You can also select one of the additional status views which allows you to monitor the recording, streaming and audio mixer status, directly from the multiview. Add an audio extension for more microphones If you're building a podcast studio or need more microphones, then the ATEM Microphone Converter allows for audio input expansion. It connects to the ATEM Television Studio via the MADI port, so there's no complex setup and you can daisy-chain units to add more inputs. Each converter has 4 analogue inputs that are selectable mic/line and feature phantom power.
The design boasts exceptional quality with extremely low noise floor of -129 dBV, 131 dB(A) dynamic range, low distortion of 0.002% and uniform tolerances across all channels. It even uses 8 separate ADCs on each input to collectively extend the dynamic range. Plus, it has a fun HDMI monitoring output with scrolling audio waveforms. Direct recording to internal cloud storage or USB disks The ATEM Television Studio HD supports recording to external USB flash drives. Or if an optional M.2 flash drive is installed, you can record directly to internal cloud storage. The internal storage plus all external USB drives will be available for sharing on the local Ethernet network, allowing others to work on post-production tasks such as editing, colour correction and graphics preparation.
All recordings are in H.264 format with AAC audio for broadcast-quality video and small file sizes. You can also connect multiple USB drives, so recording will continue if one drive is full. You even have buttons on the control panel to start recording, and you can see the recording status in the multiview. Compatible with all software supporting USB webcams You can use any video software with the ATEM Television Studio HD as the USB connection will emulate a webcam. This means you can connect to a computer and use any video software that works with a webcam. The software is fooled into thinking the ATEM Television Studio HD is an ordinary webcam, but it's actually a live production mixer. This ensures total compatibility with any video software and in full 1080HD quality.
Imagine presenting from a professional broadcast studio to software like Zoom, Teams or Skype. For streaming, the webcam output also works with streaming software such as Open Broadcaster, XSplit Broadcaster, and more. Includes free ATEM Software Control Panel The ATEM Software Control application unlocks the hidden power of the ATEM Television Studio HD by allowing access to all mixer features. ATEM Software Control features a visual switching user interface with parameter palettes for making adjustments. While you can connect via USB, if you connect via Ethernet, you can run multiple copies of ATEM Software Control on different computers.
The software allows you to switch live, mix audio, colour correct cameras and manage media. You can also create and run complex macros from the software. Plus, you can save the mixer state as an XML file to recall jobs later. You can even control external HyperDeck recorder triggering. Live streaming to a global audience ATEM Television Studio HD features a built-in hardware streaming engine for live broadcasting to a worldwide audience. This means you can stream live to services like YouTube, Facebook and Twitch with better video quality and no dropped frames.
Streaming works via the Ethernet connection to the internet, or you can connect a smartphone to use mobile data. Then simply select the streaming service and enter the streaming key using ATEM Software Control. This makes streaming easy to set up, and the handy data rate indicator shows the required internet speed. If you're technically minded, you can even update the streaming profiles in an XML settings file to add new services. Localised in 13 popular languages The ATEM Television Studio HD supports multiple languages in the menus and in ATEM Software Control, allowing you to customise it in your preferred language. You get support for English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, German, French, Russian, Italian, Portuguese, Turkish, Polish and Ukrainian.
Simply go to the setup menu to change the language, or you can always switch to a different language at any time. Once a language is selected, the menus on all LCD screens will change to display the chosen language. Multi-language support makes the ATEM Television Studio HD the perfect tool for live production anywhere in the world and with any team. Flexible and redundant power The all-in-one design of the ATEM Television Studio includes a built-in power supply, so you don't need to carry an external power brick. Simply plug it into any mains socket and start live production. The international power supply automatically works from 100 to 240 VAC, so you can use it anywhere in the world. Additionally, the ATEM Television Studio includes both AC and DC power connections.
A broadcast-standard 12 VDC XLR power connection is included, which is perfect for backup power or for running on batteries. This means you can use it in extremely remote locations. Plus, if the internal power supply were to malfunction, you can simply connect an external DC power supply to continue operating. Designed to be easy to repair With so many built-in features, it's vital that the ATEM Television Studio can be easily repaired. Plus, there's already a lot of built-in redundancy, with 4 Ethernet connections, 9 SDI program outputs, 2 USB ports and 2 power connections. However, if someone trips over a cable and breaks a connector, you need to be able to repair the connector at a low cost.
All internal electronic boards are modular, so any qualified technician can purchase a replacement and easily swap out the board. This includes the connector boards, which can be purchased separately. All the technician needs to do is remove the bottom cover and replace the board. A large broadcaster could even purchase the boards as a spare parts kit. Applications Compact broadcast vehicles
With the all-in-one design, you can build a new generation of ultra-compact broadcast vehicles. You don't need equipment racks, so you can eliminate clutter for a much more pleasant working environment. For added stability, you can even recess the mixer into the desk. Concert halls and clubs
