Lighter and more compact than similar 24-70mm lenses, its optical design incorporates two FLD elements and two low-dispersion SLD elements, plus three aspherical elements that reduce various aberrations for high sharpness, improved clarity, and enhanced color accuracy. It features only one lightweight focusing element, which helps keep the AF unit small.
