Designed as a DX workhorse, the Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-NIKKOR 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED is a zoom equivalent to 25.5-82.5mm characterized by its bright maximum aperture and sophisticated optical design. The constant, fast maximum aperture of f/2.8 is advantageous for working in difficult lighting conditions and also allows for better control over depth of field when using selective focusing techniques. The optical design incorporates three aspherical elements and three extra-low dispersion elements, which help to significantly reduce spherical and chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range. A Super Integrated Coating also minimizes surface reflections, flare, and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy. Complementing the optics, this lens is also equipped with a Silent Wave Motor for fast and precise autofocus, as well as full-time manual focus control.
