FLD glass, SLD glass and high refractive index, high dispersion glass help minimise aberrations
To help minimise axial and lateral chromatic aberrations, this lens features an optimal arrangement of three FLD ("F" Low Dispersion) glass elements, one SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass element, three high refractive index SLD glass elements and one high refractive index, high dispersion glass element. By including one or more low dispersion elements in each group of elements, this lens ensures exceptional image quality throughout the zoom and focal range. * FLD glass is an ultra-low dispersion glass that offers the highest level of performance. Highly transparent, its refractive index and dispersion are extremely low compared to conventional glass types. It offers characteristics very similar to those of fluorite, valued for its high anomalous dispersion. These characteristics minimise residual chromatic aberration (secondary spectrum), which cannot be corrected by ordinary optical glass, while contributing to producing sharp, high-contrast images.
Designed to minimise flare and ghosting
From the very beginning of the design process, SIGMA measured flare and ghosting to establish an optical design resistant to strong incident light sources such as backlighting.
Equipped with a newly designed Hyper Sonic motor
To achieve exceptional image quality and F1.8 brightness, SIGMA has improved its Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM). By optimising the layout and shapes of individual parts, SIGMA has made the HSM 30% slimmer than before. In turn, this slimmer HSM has made it possible to combine F1.8 brightness and high image quality in a zoom lens.
Aperture unit designed for smooth operation
The aperture diameter is the second largest in the SIGMA lens range after the SIGMA 200-500mm F2.8 / 400-1000mm F5.6 EX DG, requiring smoother and faster operation than ever before. To achieve this, the aperture blades feature a Carbon Feather film, and the aperture unit uses a new fluorine-containing polycarbonate compound. Thanks to these innovations, the aperture operation is exceptionally smooth even during continuous shooting, while the new polycarbonate is exceptionally durable and wear-resistant.
Internal focus and internal zoom
Since its release, the SIGMA 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM | Art has been widely used for videography. Understanding that the SIGMA 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM | Art and the new SIGMA 50-100mm F1.8 DC HSM | Art will often be used together, SIGMA has made the operating style identical for both lenses, including the feel of focusing and zooming. Thanks to SIGMA's internal focus and internal zoom technologies, adjusting the focus and zoom rings does not change the length of the lens, and rotating the zoom ring is not likely to cause a focus shift.
Tripod collar designed for stable and comfortable use
The tripod collar is compact, making use more stable and comfortable during handheld photography. Parts with chemical nickel plating help ensure the quality and durability of the 90-degree stops and a smooth transition between horizontal and vertical positions. The shape of the collar also improves ease of handling and transport when the lens is not attached to a camera.
The Art range offers a high level of artistic expression
SIGMA organises all its interchangeable lenses into three product ranges: Contemporary, Art and Sports, each with a distinct concept. Designed with an emphasis on sophisticated optical performance and abundant expressive power, our Art range lenses offer a high level of artistic expression. Delivering incredible rendering performance that meets the highest standards, they are perfect for landscapes, portraits, still life, close-ups and casual shooting. They are designed for the type of photography that unleashes the inner artist. A powerful ally in all genres of photography, SIGMA's Art range lenses excel both in the studio for formal work and outdoors for impressive shots of architecture, starry skies and many other scenes.
Extra-long lens hood (Included)
The included lens hood is extra-long and features an anti-reflection coating to manage unwanted light. The lens hood also features rubber and non-slip textures for easy handling by the photographer during shooting.
TSC used for a more compact structure and improved performance
As the new Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material is highly elastic, it exhibits minimal deformation. Parts manufactured with TSC are therefore less likely to develop gaps between them over time. The SIGMA 30mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary features a lens barrel and aperture parts manufactured in TSC, which contribute both to the compactness of the lens and to the smooth operation of the aperture system. TSC helps increase the precision of the cells containing the lens elements and the parts related to the focusing lens group, thereby improving lens performance.
