Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG OS HSM Nikon

A versatile zoom lens for everyday photography, the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM for Canon EF mount covers a useful focal range from wide-angle to portrait, suited for shooting in a variety of environments. As part of the prestigious Art lens series, a sophisticated optical design is employed, incorporating three SLD elements and four aspherical elements to reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations, as well as colour fringing, distortion and other anomalies for greater clarity and sharpness. A Super Multi-Layer coating has also been applied to suppress reflections and ghosting, ensuring accurate colour fidelity and high contrast, and a protective coating has also been applied to the front element to facilitate working in difficult weather conditions. Furthermore, to extend its versatility, a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8 provides consistent performance across the entire zoom range as well as improved depth of field control.
Complementing the imaging capabilities, the lens features a Hyper Sonic Motor to produce fast, smooth and silent autofocus with real-time manual focus override capability. Optical stabilisation also benefits handheld shooting by minimising the appearance of camera shake blur for sharper images. The physical design uses a thermally stable composite material for durability across a wide range of environments, and a brass bayonet mount also provides rigidity and mounting precision.

- As a member of the Art line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve truly outstanding optical performance and is ideally suited to creative and artistic applications.
- This standard zoom lens is designed for Nikon F-mount FX-format DSLRs, but can also be used with DX models where it will provide an equivalent focal range of 36-105mm.
- The constant maximum aperture of f/2.8 is well suited to working in low-light conditions and also provides improved control over focus position when using shallow depth of field techniques.
- Three Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements and four aspherical elements are present in the optical design and help to reduce colour fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved colour clarity and accuracy, as well as spherical aberrations for reduced distortion and improved sharpness across the entire zoom range.
- A Super Multi-Layer coating has been applied to the lens elements to minimise reflections and ghosting and help produce images that are rich in contrast and colour neutral, even in backlit conditions.
- The front element of the lens has been treated with a hydrophobic and oleophobic coating to facilitate working in difficult environmental conditions.
- The nine-blade rounded diaphragm contributes to smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.
- The built-in HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) provides fast and silent autofocus, which is further complemented by an optimised AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance. The HSM also allows real-time manual focus override simply by turning the focus ring at any time.
- The optical stabilisation system minimises the appearance of camera shake blur to benefit sharper images when shooting handheld.
- The specialised electromagnetic aperture mechanism provides greater stability of exposure control, particularly beneficial when using fast continuous shooting speeds.
- The lens is constructed using a thermally stable composite (TSC) material, as well as traditional metals, for greater precision and use across wide temperature variations.
- The bayonet mount is constructed in brass to ensure precision and durability. Additionally, a rubber seal is incorporated into the mount design to make it dust- and splash-resistant.
- This lens is compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock to fine-tune various lens characteristics and update its firmware.
