The Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM is a wide-angle zoom lens designed specifically for EOS DSLR cameras equipped with APS-C sensors, where it provides a 35mm equivalent focal range of 16–28.8mm. The optical design incorporates one aspherical element, one UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) element, and one large-diameter element to minimise chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range and contribute to exceptional sharpness and remarkable image clarity. Advanced optical coatings have also been applied to the optical elements to minimise flare and ghosting in order to maintain image contrast and colour neutrality.

Advantageous for working in challenging lighting conditions, an optical image stabiliser has been integrated into the lens design to minimise the appearance of camera shake by up to four effective shutter speed stops. Working seamlessly with Canon EOS Movie Servo AF, a stepping STM AF motor produces smooth and near-silent focusing that is further enhanced by a rear focusing design, a high-speed processor, and intelligent AF algorithms for faster focusing. Continuous manual focus can also be used for fine focusing accuracy down to 22 cm.
