AJA OEM 8-channel PCIe card, SD/HD/4K
Thanks to its integrated hardware processing, the AJA KONA 4 R0-S05 can capture and output 4K video at frame rates up to 60 fps. With this resolution, you can view the details of your production natively on a 4K monitor. In addition to 4K resolutions, the KONA 4 supports uncompressed 1080p I/O with 4:4:4 or 4:2:2 chroma subsampling. The KONA 4 can simultaneously receive and output uncompressed video via its 3G-SDI ports. Two ports accept video input while the other two can power a professional display or output to a recorder.
Hardware processing also enables up, down, and cross conversion. Typically, to unify project resolution, footage must be converted or rendered in software to match the project. Thanks to its internal hardware scaler, the KONA 4 can unify the resolutions of your project's video clips without pre-rendering. In addition to conversion, the KONA's internal processing can overlay graphics onto a video stream for fast keying.
The KONA 4 includes a 60-pin breakout cable for greater I/O flexibility. Additional inputs and outputs include AES/EBU audio, LTC and Reference BNC connections, component analogue video, and RS-422 machine control. A 4-BNC to mini-BNC adapter cable and an HDMI to mini-HDMI cable are also included. The KONA 4 can also be used in a rack configuration with the optional K3G breakout box. The K3G integrates into a standard 19" rack space and has connections to take advantage of all the I/O the KONA 4 has to offer.

4K High Frame Rate (HFR) Support
The KONA 4 supports 50p and 60p up to 4K resolutions. 4K can be input or output using the four BNC connections for broadcast and professional equipment, or the HDMI port to connect to 4K computer monitors or consumer equipment such as televisions.
Versatile Integration
The KONA 4 supports Windows and Linux, delivering 4K and multi-channel power for a wide range of applications. Mac support will be available in the future.
Hardware Keying
The built-in hardware downstream mixer allows graphics and images to be overlaid onto the card's input video for keying. Hardware processing provides the computing power needed to quickly create a key without pre-rendering.
Hardware Conversion
The KONA 4 performs hardware up, down, and cross conversion to unify resolutions. Hardware conversion simplifies workflows and eliminates the need to adjust resolution using software. If your project is in 1080p resolution and you have standard definition NTSC content, the internal scaler will process and convert the NTSC footage to match the project's 1080p resolution. If the NTSC footage has a different aspect ratio (4:3), you can choose how you want the KONA 4 to handle it. It can be processed with black bars (letterboxing) or anamorphic stretching to fit the 16:9 HD frame. Since this conversion is performed with the KONA's hardware, it happens in real time, so no pre-rendering is required.

Subsampling

10-bit hardware
Anamorphic: full screen
Letterbox: the image is reduced with black added at the top and bottom of the image area whilst preserving the aspect ratio
Crop: the image is cropped to fit the new screen size

Upsampling

10-bit hardware
Anamorphic: full screen
Pillarbox 4:3: results in a 4:3 image in the centre of the screen with black bars on the sides
Zoom 14:9: results in a 4:3 image slightly zoomed to fill a 14:9 image with black bars on the sides
Zoom Letterbox: results in a zoomed image to fill the entire screen
Zoom Wide: results in a combination of zoom and horizontal stretching to fill a 16:9 screen; this setting may introduce a slight change in aspect ratio

Cross conversion

10-bit hardware
1080i to 720p
720p to 1080i
720p to 1080PsF

SD to SD aspect ratio conversion

Letterbox: Transforms anamorphic SD material into a letterbox image
H Crop: Will produce a horizontal stretch effect on the image; transforms anamorphic SD to full screen
Pillarbox SD: Will produce an image in the centre of the screen with black borders on the left and right sides and an anamorphic image in the centre
V Crop: Will transform letterbox SD material into an anamorphic image
