Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens for Sony E

Combining an incredibly versatile focal length with a wide maximum aperture, the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art lens for Sony E-mount is a wide-angle lens characterised by its advanced optical design. The combination of one F Low Dispersion (FLD) element and four Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements significantly reduces chromatic aberrations, whilst a pair of aspherical elements, one of which is positioned at the rear of the lens, minimises a variety of distortions and additional aberrations. A Super Multi coating has also been applied to the lens elements to reduce flare and ghosting, thus providing better contrast and colour fidelity. Additionally, the maximum aperture of f/1.4 is advantageous for working in low-light conditions and offers increased control over depth of field to isolate the subject.
Complementing the imaging capabilities, the lens features a Hyper Sonic motor to produce fast, smooth and silent autofocus with manual priority at all times. The physical design uses a thermally stable composite material for durability in a wide range of environments, and a brass bayonet mount also offers rigidity and mounting precision.
- As a member of the Art line of Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve truly exceptional optical performance and is ideally suited for creative and artistic applications.
- This standard wide-angle lens is designed for Sony E-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras, but can also be used with APS-C models where it will provide an equivalent focal length of 52.5mm.
- The wide maximum aperture of f/1.4 is well-suited for working in low-light conditions and also provides better control over the plane of focus when using shallow depth of field techniques.
- One FLD element and four SLD elements are present in the optical design and help reduce colour fringing and chromatic aberrations for better clarity and colour accuracy.
- Two aspherical elements reduce distortion and spherical aberrations for improved sharpness and accurate rendering.
- A Super Multi-Layer coating has been applied to the lens elements to minimise flare and ghosting and help produce rich, high-contrast images with neutral colour, even when shooting in backlight.
- The nine-blade rounded diaphragm contributes to a soft and pleasing bokeh.
- The integrated HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) enables fast and silent autofocus, which is further complemented by an optimised AF algorithm for smoother focus performance. The HSM also allows manual focus control at any time by simply turning the focus ring.
- The lens is constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material, as well as traditional metals, for greater precision and use in significant temperature variations.
- The bayonet mount is constructed from brass to ensure precision and durability. Additionally, a rubber seal is incorporated into the mount design to make it resistant to dust and splashes.
