Designed for portraiture, the Samyang AF 85mm f/1.4 for Sony E-mount is a short telephoto characterised by its fast f/1.4 maximum aperture. The bright design offers excellent depth of field control for isolating subjects using selective focus, and also excels in low-light conditions. The optical design includes four high refractive index elements, which help reduce spherical aberrations and distortion to achieve high sharpness and clarity. An extra-low dispersion element is also present, which controls colour fringing and chromatic aberrations to achieve a high degree of clarity and colour accuracy. Individual elements are also coated with ultra multi-coating, which suppresses flare and ghosting for improved contrast in bright lighting conditions. Complementing the optical design, a dual ultrasonic linear motor and internal focusing design provide fast and quiet autofocus performance. Additionally, a nine-blade rounded aperture contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.
- This portrait-length prime lens is designed for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, but can also be used on APS-C models where it offers an equivalent focal length of 127.5mm.
