Panasonic DC-GH6LE - Panasonic DC-GH6LE + LUMIX G H-ES12060
A pioneer of the Micro Four Thirds class, the Panasonic LUMIX G H-ES12060 is a little beast that defies full-frame rivals, a powerful hybrid addition to the video-oriented GH series that offers cutting-edge technology for filmmakers and photographers. The enhanced processing power of the Venus engine enables fast sensor readouts for internal recording of 5.7K 30p in Apple ProRes 422 HQ, FHD 300p and handheld 100MP photos. The GH6 exposes correctly across more than 13 stops, features built-in sensor-shift stabilisation and can be integrated into VariCam footage thanks to its pre-installed V-log image profile. Panasonic has created a premium compact camera that professionals can choose for photography, as a primary tool for independent filmmaking, or as an additional angle on film productions.
Premium imaging platform
High-resolution 25MP sensor, 5.7K video
Completely redesigned, this sensor improves upon its GH series predecessors with new silicon and software technology. It offers an improved dynamic range of over 13 stops despite its reduced cell size due to the increased number of pixels on the Micro Four Thirds sensor. Use a CFexpress Type B card to record Apple Pro Res 422 HQ internally at 5.7K, or the SD slot to capture 4K120p 10-bit footage. The ability to record at high bitrates and unlimited recording time distinguishes this camera from all its predecessors.
For maximum sharpness, the sensor is not hindered by a low-pass filter; it smooths any moiré through the intelligent detail processing of its updated Venus engine. Building on its next-generation image stabilisation, this camera synthesises eight distinct images into a single 100MP image - all without requiring a tripod.
Ultra-fast sensor readout
The Venus engine has twice the power compared to previous generations, enabling continuous shooting at 75 fps or slow-motion footage at variable frame rate (VFR) at 300 fps. Fast sensor readout by the Venus engine limits rolling shutter distortion to keep skyscrapers vertical when shooting from a car mount or to capture slow-motion footage of fast-moving objects.
Stabilisation: in-body, sensor-shift
- In-body 5-axis sensor-shift image stabilisation is achieved using a high-precision gyroscope and stabilisation algorithm. At all focal lengths, this stabilisation technology offers 7.5 stops of variance from the shutter speed dictated by the reciprocity rule.
- Its built-in sensor-shift technology works perfectly with the optical stabilisation of Panasonic lenses. Electronic stabilisation is available for those who accept the slight crop effect it requires. Boost I.S. mode is the most extreme form of electronic stabilisation, simulating a tripod-locked shot.
AF & AE highlights
- Autofocus processing speed has been tripled, powering the 315-zone contrast-based system based on depth from defocus (DFD). The updated algorithm calculates the distance to your subject and predicts whether it is moving towards or away from the camera, anticipating where it will be for the next shot. It works by collecting data from multiple focal planes, then creating a real-time 3D depth map.
- The subject tracking focus system also supports face, eye, head, body and animal recognition. Autofocus automatically switches from body to face then eye recognition as the subject moves closer to the camera for better sharpness.
- Focus limiter, manual focus assist and the updated joystick enable fast, accurate focusing. The AF area is a less intrusive overlay, and face priority in multi-metering prevents unwanted exposure changes.
High-quality professional video with high bitrate
Unlimited latitude
- 5.7K 30p recording is supported in high-quality Apple ProRes 422 HQ/ProRes 422 codecs for visually lossless, high-bitrate images suitable for intensive post-production processing.
- The GH6 supports unlimited recording up to DCI 4K at 60p with 4:2:2 10-bit sampling for impeccable detail and depth in colour rendering.
Preserve over 13 stops of detail
- Shooting in V-Log and V-Gamut will give you 12+ stops of dynamic range, which can be increased to 13+ stops by activating its dual analogue gain circuits with Dynamic Range Boost mode. A circuit using ISO 800 absorbs the richness of the visible spectrum whilst maintaining detail in the highlights, and ISO 2000 captures gradations of black with low noise in the shadows.
- The correctly exposed image is composed once passed through the dedicated image synthesis circuit. This makes it different from a dual native ISO design as you do not select one ISO or the other, but both work in tandem. Dynamic Range Boost mode is available for footage shot up to 60 fps.
Unlimited recording durations
Panasonic recognises the importance of filming long clips and has designed the GH6 to have no maximum recording duration. Extended takes such as interviews and live events can be recorded in their entirety, reducing sync errors and simplifying data management. This is made possible by a fan-based active cooling design that dissipates heat from the sensor.
Intelligent image processing
3D noise reduction is achieved by comparing three sequential images, then automatically removing noise that only appears in one of the three images. Intelligent detail processing eliminates the need for a low-pass filter and smooths fine details such as hair and threads to minimise moiré patterns.
Flat profile & extended colour space
Edit seamlessly with VariCam cameras with accurate colour reproduction and subtle gradations from shadows to highlights. V-log and Hybrid Log Gamma preserve maximum data, leaving your colourist plenty of latitude to shape the aesthetic with creative LUTs. The GH6 supports .CUBE and .VLT formats for real-time V-Log viewing assistance to approximate the final rendering of your deliverable.
Anamorphic versatility
- Record open-gate with the 4:3 sensor for 5.8K 30p 4:2:0 10-bit and 4.4K 60p 4:2:0 10-bit video.
- Store up to 10 anamorphic lenses on the GH6 for quick changes and desqueezed footage ready to view. Images can be desqueezed to cinemascope format. The magnification ratio is also selectable between 1.30x, 1.33x, 1.5x, 1.8x or 2.0x.
- The anamorphic image stabiliser setting is ideal for using an anamorphic lens. To correctly interpret visual information for stabilisation processing, select from 1.30x, 1.33x, 1.5x, 1.8x or 2.0x according to the lens magnification.
Super slow motion
By shooting in high frame rate (HFR) 4K, you can increase your frame rate to 120p, or 1080p will give you 240p to play with. If you can do without an audio track, freeze time with super slow-motion variable frame rate (VFR) footage at 300 fps in FHD 10-bit. Autofocus remains available to actively make changes during recording up to 200 fps.
Instant backup
Simultaneous internal and external recording via the HDMI port extends your redundancy and storage options, particularly useful when shooting live events lasting over an hour. Record at resolutions up to DCI 4K in 17:9 with bit depths up to 4:2:2, 10-bit, and frame rates up to 60p, 50p, 30p, 25p, 24p.
High-fidelity sound
Enhanced audio features enable high-quality audio recording. The GH6 is always ready to capture 48kHz 24-bit with the built-in microphone. Switch to 96kHz 24-bit with an external microphone. For recording interviews with multiple microphones, the HDMI will output 4 channels of audio data.
Control tools & assistants
- The waveform monitor, vectorscope and spot luminance meter provide you with vital information about your levels.
- Time-lapse video capture is customisable for shooting and playback durations, with exposure smoothing.
- Focus transition, frame indicator and frame marker enhance production and post-production workflow.
