Prized for event, portrait and sports photography, the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Sports lens for Nikon F mount is a versatile telephoto zoom characterised by its bright and sophisticated design. The fast, constant maximum aperture of f/2.8 excels in challenging lighting conditions and also offers enhanced depth-of-field control for isolating subjects. Regarding the optical design, 10 impressive low-dispersion elements are used to significantly reduce chromatic aberrations and colour fringing for improved clarity and colour accuracy. A Super Multi-Layer coating is also present and helps suppress ghosting and flare when shooting in intense lighting conditions.
Complementing the optics, an intelligent OS system minimises the appearance of camera shake blur for sharper results when shooting handheld. A Hyper Sonic motor is also used to provide fast and silent autofocus with continuous manual focus capability. The lens's physical design also incorporates multiple seals to protect against dust and moisture, and a water- and oil-repellent coating has been applied to exposed elements to prevent moisture, fingerprints or smudges from adhering to the surface. In addition, a fixed rotating tripod ring is included, with a removable Arca-compatible foot for broad compatibility with different tripod heads or monopods.
- Part of the Sports line of Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to deliver excellent optical performance, speed and other customisable features that make it an ideal choice for wildlife, sport, action and other fast-moving subjects.
- The versatile telephoto zoom is designed for FX-format Nikon F-mount cameras, but is also suitable for APS-C models where it offers an equivalent focal range of 105-300 mm.
- The constant maximum aperture of f/2.8 is well suited for working in low-light conditions and also offers improved control of the focus position when using shallow depth-of-field techniques.
- One Special Low Dispersion (SLD) element and nine F Low Dispersion (FLD) elements are incorporated into the optical design and help reduce colour fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and colour accuracy, as well as spherical aberrations for reduced distortion and improved sharpness throughout the zoom range.
- A Super Multi-Layer coating has been applied to the lens elements to minimise flare and ghosting and help produce images rich in contrast and colour-neutral, even in backlit conditions.
- The front and rear elements of the lens have received a water- and oil-repellent treatment for working in challenging environmental conditions.
- The 11-blade rounded diaphragm contributes to smooth and pleasing bokeh.
- The built-in HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) enables fast and silent autofocus, which is further enhanced by an optimised AF algorithm for smoother focusing performance. The HSM also allows permanent manual focus control simply by turning the focus ring at any time.
- An intelligent optical stabilisation system minimises the appearance of camera shake blur for sharper images when shooting handheld.
- The bayonet mount is constructed in brass to guarantee precision and durability. In addition, a rubber gasket is incorporated into the mount design to make it resistant to dust and splashes.
